Mike Sherman hired as head coach of CFL's Montreal Alouettes

After with a CFL-worst 3-15 record this year, the Montreal Alouettes have hired Mike Sherman as their new head coach. Jacques Chapdelaine was fired in September, and general manager Kavis Reed finished out the season as interim head coach.

Sherman is best known for his time as head coach/general manager of the Green Bay Packers, where he was 57-39 and 2-4 in the postseason over six seasons (2000-2005). After two years as an assistant with the Houston Texans, he became head coach at Texas A&M and went 25-25 over four seasons (2008-2011).

After two years as offensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins (2012-2013), Sherman resurfaced as head coach at Nauset Regional High School in Massachusetts. But he resigned in May after two seasons.

Here's some of what Sherman had to say, via a statement.
My goal is to bring passion and accountability that our fans will see when the team plays this season. We need to give Montrealers a competitive team that strives to be at a championship level in everything we do as a team and as an organization. I am looking forward to talking to the players and hear their thoughts about this upcoming season," Sherman said in the statement.
"I have heard some great things about the Canadian Football League and I know that the fans in Montreal are passionate and we will give them a competitive team on the field. We know what's ahead and we're all looking forward to training camp next May."
Sherman is now the third current head coach in the CFL's East division with NFL head coaching experience, joining Marc Trestman (Toronto Argonauts) and June Jones (Hamilton Tiger-Cats).
